ASUS Announces ZenFone 3 Deluxe With Snapdragon 821, 6GB RAM, 256GB UFS 2.0 Storage

With Qualcomm taking the wraps off the Snapdragon 821, it was only right for OEMs to come forward and claim the flagship SoC for their devices. The Snapdragon 821 is a minor upgrade over the Snapdragon 820, but the whole premise of flagships is to offer the best of the best, and so here we are.

If you care about the numbers, the Snapdragon 821 is a 10% claimed increase in performance over the Snapdragon 820, with the performance cluster clocked higher at 2.4GHz, the power cluster clocked above 2.0GHz and the Adreno GPU also clocked higher than that of the 820.

The ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe is the first device that has been made official with the Snapdragon 821. The 821 SoC will be available on the top variant, which also houses other beastly specs like the 6GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.0 storage. The rest of the specs and the design of the phone follow along with the other variants. For a recap, the ZenFone 3 comes with a 5.7″ FHD display with a bunch of other additions like a fingerprint sensor, USB Type C port with fast charging support, a 3000 mAh battery, a 23MP rear camera and Android 6.0 Marshmallow with ASUS’s ZenUI skin. The phone is also reportedly certified for compatibility with Google Daydream VR.

The ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe 256GB variant will cost NT$24,990 ($776). The phone will go on sale soon in Taiwan and Hong Kong, but global availability is not yet known at this stage.

The Snapdragon 821 coupled with 256GB of UFS 2.0 storage and 6GB of RAM make for a very compelling, future-proof package. If only ASUS could throw in some guarantee for swift software updates, this would be a phone to look out for on all fronts.
